Governor Announces New FEMA Obligations for Infrastructure and Mitigation Projects in Puerto Rico

La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico – October 27, 2026 – Governor of Puerto Rico Jenniffer González-Colón today announced $753,617.84 in new obligations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for infrastructure, public facilities, safety, and hazard mitigation projects across Puerto Rico.

The new obligations include $188,717.84 for Public Assistance projects related to Hurricanes Maria and Fiona, as well as $564,900 through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) for a flood control and coastal stabilization project.

“I want to thank President Donald J. Trump, as well as Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin and the FEMA team for their work alongside the Government of Puerto Rico. These new obligations demonstrate the importance of a strong federal response that addresses both the needs left by an emergency and the measures necessary to reduce risks from future events. We will continue leveraging available federal resources so that Puerto Rico can move forward and be better prepared,” said Governor González-Colón.

As part of these obligations, FEMA allocated funding for four projects:

·       $71,788.48 to the Municipality of Orocovis for Project MORO136 – ORO FEMA 170 in the Gato neighborhood.

·       $89,663.73 to the Municipality of Corozal for the Howard T. Jason Court/Park in the town center.

·       $13,776.05 to the Puerto Rico Department of Education for work related to the Ernesto Ramos Antonini School of Music.

·       $13,489.58 to the Puerto Rico Ports Authority for emergency protective measures related to safety.

Additionally, FEMA approved $564,900 through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) for the Mariana Flood Control Project, which will fund flood control and coastal stabilization work. The initiative is 100 percent federally funded, with a total project cost of $564,900.

Governor González Colón emphasized that investments of this kind complement ongoing recovery efforts by supporting projects designed to reduce future risks.

“From PRFAA, in collaboration with COR3, we are continuing the work Governor Jenniffer González-Colón began as Resident Commissioner by following up on the federal funding she secured for Puerto Rico and working to ensure those resources continue reaching the projects for which they were intended. These new obligations are part of that sustained effort to ensure that federal resources translate into tangible projects and, in the case of mitigation funding, into measures that help reduce the risks facing our communities,” said PRFAA Executive Director Gabriella Boffelli.

The González-Colón Administration will continue monitoring federal obligations and recovery and mitigation projects that remain under review and in progress with FEMA.
