Governor Announces More Than $16 Million in FEMA Funds for Critical Infrastructure and School Repairs
La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico – November 3, 2026 – Governor of Puerto Rico Jenniffer González-Colón announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has obligated $16,621,064.68 for two critical infrastructure projects in Puerto Rico as part of ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Fiona.
The largest obligation, totaling $16,385,256.07, was awarded to the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) for the Juncos-Gurabo Sanitary Trunk Sewer Rehabilitation project. The project represents a strategic investment in strengthening wastewater collection and management infrastructure while supporting public health and environmental protection in the east-central region of Puerto Rico.
In addition, FEMA obligated $235,808.61 to the Puerto Rico Department of Education for permanent repairs at Avelino Peña Reyes School in Humacao, including the restoration of the school’s structure and equipment for the benefit of its students, faculty, and broader school community.
“These more than $16.6 million reflect our Administration’s commitment to restoring and strengthening the infrastructure that our communities depend on every day. I thank the Administration of President Donald Trump and FEMA for continuing to respond to Puerto Rico’s needs and supporting projects that will have a direct impact on the quality and reliability of essential services. Our priority is to ensure that every federal resource approved translates into tangible progress for our people,” said Governor Jenniffer González-Colón.
Both obligations are associated with the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Fiona, bringing the total to $16,621,064.68 in obligated funds for these two projects.
“We thank FEMA and the Trump Administration for continuing to work closely with Puerto Rico and for recognizing the importance of addressing critical infrastructure needs. From PRFAA, we will continue strengthening coordination with federal agencies, COR3, and Puerto Rico’s government agencies to advance the resources needed to move priority projects forward and accelerate the recovery of our Island,” said Gabriella Boffelli, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA).
The Governor emphasized the Administration’s continued oversight of the implementation of the obligated funds.
“Every federal dollar approved represents an opportunity to continue transforming critical infrastructure and addressing longstanding needs that have affected our communities. We will continue monitoring the use of these resources to ensure that projects move forward and that federal investment translates into concrete improvements for Puerto Rican families.”
